Graduate Teaching Assistant – The Role
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pupils to support learning, raise attainment, and contribute positively to school life. Depending on your interests and experience, placements are available in both primary and secondary settings.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting pupils in the classroom on a one-to-one and small-group basis
- Assisting teachers with lesson preparation and delivery
- Helping students overcome barriers to learning
- Supporting pupils with varying academic abilities and learning needs
- Encouraging engagement, confidence, and academic progress
- Contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Gaining first-hand experience of teaching and classroom management
Graduate Teaching Assistant – Candidate Requirements
- A degree from a recognised university (all subject areas considered)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A genuine passion for education and supporting young people
- An interest in pursuing a career in teaching, educational psychology, or a related field
- A proactive, professional, and positive attitude
- Previous experience working with children or young people is advantageous but not essential
