The Role – Art Therapy Assistant
- Full-time, long-term position starting immediately
- Support students in 1:1 and small-group art therapy sessions under the guidance of qualified therapists and teachers
- Use art and creative activities to help pupils express emotions, improve confidence, and develop social and communication skills
- Assist with planning and preparing materials for structured and therapeutic art sessions
- Encourage engagement and participation from pupils with a range of complex needs and challenging behaviours
- Collaborate with teachers and SENCOs to integrate creative therapeutic practices into the classroom environment
- Play a key role in promoting a calm, safe, and positive atmosphere where students can thrive emotionally and creatively
Person Specification
- Degree in Art Therapy, Psychology, Fine Art, Creative Arts, or a related field (essential)
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEMH, or autism (desirable but not essential)
- A passion for creativity, emotional wellbeing, and child development
- Patient, empathetic, and resilient with strong interpersonal skills
- A genuine desire to make a positive impact through art therapy and creative expression
