Graduate English teaching Assistant – Candidate Specification
We are on the lookout for a Graduate English Teaching Assistant who holds:
- Holds a 1st or 2:1 degree in English Language, English Literature, or a closely related subject from a Russell Group or top-30 university
- Has strong A-Levels and GCSEs, especially in English
- Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Has a solid grasp of grammar, structure, and literary analysis
- Demonstrates a passion for English education and a desire to support students of all abilities
- Has tutoring, peer mentoring, or classroom experience (desirable but not essential)
Graduate English Teaching Assistant – Role Responsibilities
As a Graduate English Teaching Assistant you can except to:
- Work closely with the class teacher to support lesson delivery across KS3 and KS4
- Run 1:1 and small group intervention sessions to support struggling students or stretch high achievers
- Provide in-class assistance during reading, writing, and analysis tasks
- Help identify students who need extra support or additional challenges
- Prepare resources, support behaviour management, and help maintain a purposeful classroom environment
- Act as a positive role model, inspiring students to develop a love for language and literature
