Have you recently graduated with a degree in Psychology, Education Studies, Childhood Studies or a related subject?

Are you eager to begin a rewarding career in education, psychology, or mental health, supporting children who need specialist help to reach their full potential?

This welcoming specialist SEN school in Sutton supports young people with a wide range of additional needs. Students here may have communication difficulties, cognitive challenges, or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school prides itself on providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where every pupil can thrive—academically, socially and emotionally.

Now expanding its dedicated team, the school is looking for a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant who is eager to develop their understanding of special educational needs and make a meaningful impact on children’s lives.

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A recent degree (2:2 or above) in Psychology, Education, Special Educational Needs and Disability, or a related field
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people in their learning and development
  • An empathetic, patient, and resilient nature
  • A strong interest in building a long-term career in education, therapy, or child development
  • Previous experience working with children (desirable but not essential)

The Role

This is an exceptional opportunity for a graduate to gain practical, hands-on experience within a supportive school setting. As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will have access to excellent training, modern facilities—including sensory rooms and therapeutic spaces—and a collaborative team of teachers and specialists.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing personalised support to students with additional learning and emotional needs
  • Working with pupils displaying challenging behaviour, using evidence-based approaches
  • Supporting students with ASD and communication difficulties to develop confidence and independence
  • Collaborating closely with therapists, SENCOs, and teaching staff to ensure each child receives holistic, tailored support
  • Developing your understanding of EHCPs, adaptive teaching and early intervention strategies

This is more than just a job—it’s the perfect first step towards a future career in educational psychology, therapy, or SEN teaching. You’ll gain the experience, insight, and confidence to progress in whichever path you choose.
