Are you a talented Fine Art graduate, practising artist, postgraduate student or aspiring Art teacher looking to develop your career in education while inspiring the next generation of young artists?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Artist in Residence / Graduate Art Practitioner to join our thriving Art department from September 2026. This exciting opportunity is specifically designed for an unqualified Art teacher, emerging artist, recent Art graduate or creative practitioner who is passionate about Fine Art and keen to gain meaningful classroom experience within a highly successful and supportive school environment.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals considering a future career in Art teaching, arts education or creative mentoring. A formal teaching qualification is not required—instead, we are looking for someone with strong artistic knowledge, enthusiasm for working with young people and a genuine passion for developing artistic talent.

The successful candidate will support students studying GCSE and A Level Fine Art, helping them to develop confidence, creativity and technical skill through practical studio work, experimentation, discussion and critique. You will work particularly closely with students preparing coursework portfolios and externally assessed projects, supporting them to produce ambitious and highly creative outcomes.

Working alongside experienced Art teachers, you will gain valuable experience in teaching and learning while benefiting from a reduced teaching timetable, allowing time for professional development and wider contribution to the department.

You will have opportunities to:

  • Support the delivery of engaging and inspiring GCSE and A Level Fine Art lessons
  • Work with highly motivated sixth form students on portfolio development, personal investigation work, experimentation and creative practice
  • Help students build strong portfolios and ambitious aspirations for progression into Art Foundation courses, creative degrees and leading universities
  • Support students in developing observational drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture and contemporary art practices
  • Contribute to enrichment opportunities including gallery visits, artist workshops, exhibitions, sketchbook development and studio-based projects
  • Support the curation of displays and exhibitions, helping to celebrate and showcase outstanding student work
  • Work collaboratively with experienced colleagues to develop subject knowledge, curriculum enrichment and teaching practice

You will join a school where the Arts are genuinely valued, with access to excellent specialist facilities including dedicated Art studios, gallery space and opportunities for creative collaboration. The department is committed to fostering creativity, technical excellence and artistic ambition, enabling students at GCSE and A Level to thrive and achieve exceptional outcomes.

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who:

  • Hold a strong degree or postgraduate qualification in Fine Art or a related Art discipline
  • Are practising artists or have an active interest in creative practice
  • Are considering a future career in Art teaching or arts education
  • Have the ability to inspire and motivate young people studying Art at GCSE and A Level
  • Are enthusiastic, reflective and eager to develop professionally

This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a high-performing school while nurturing your own artistic and professional development.

If you are a passionate artist or aspiring Art teacher ready to inspire young creatives, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible. Early applications are strongly encouraged, and interviews may be held before the closing date.

Help shape the artists of tomorrow while taking the first step in your own creative education journey.
