Duties:
A well-established and expanding civil engineering and infrastructure contractor based in Manchester is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join their team. The business delivers a diverse portfolio of civils, utilities and groundworks projects across the North West and wider UK, working with both public and private sector clients.
This is a senior commercial role offering a high level of autonomy and responsibility. You will take ownership of the commercial function across multiple civil engineering projects, acting as a key decision-maker and trusted advisor to operational and senior leadership teams.
We are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager with strong NEC contract knowledge who can protect commercial position, manage risk and drive profitability, while shaping commercial strategy and best practice across the business.
Key responsibilities will include:

Full ownership of all commercial and contractual aspects of projects from pre-contract through to final account.

Leading the administration of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts, including early warnings, compensation events and change management.

Preparing, submitting and agreeing valuations, variations, applications for payment and final accounts.

Controlling project costs, forecasting, cash flow and commercial performance reporting.

Leading subcontract procurement, negotiation and ongoing commercial management.

Proactively identifying, managing and mitigating commercial risk while maximising value.

Providing clear, accurate commercial reports and insight to senior management.

Supporting and mentoring junior commercial staff as the team develops.

Working closely with project and delivery teams to ensure strong commercial and operational alignment.
Requirements:

Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or infrastructure.

Strong practical knowledge of NEC contracts.

Excellent commercial awareness, negotiation and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.

Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline (RICS desirable but not essential).
Salary/package:

Salary of £75,000–£90,000.
