Duties:

Contract Compliance Engineer

UK Multi-Site | Contract / Interim Assignment | Engineering Compliance & Asset Management

KPI Recruiting are supporting a major UK industrial business with the appointment of an experienced Contract Compliance Engineer to lead a key engineering improvement programme across multiple operational sites.

Working closely with the Head of Engineering and site engineering teams, you will help develop and implement a consistent approach to engineering compliance, engineering standards, asset management and equipment obsolescence across the UK operation.

This is not simply an auditing role. We are looking for a hands-on engineer who can identify gaps, establish priorities and then build the practical systems, standards and governance needed to deliver sustainable improvements.

The Role

The assignment will focus on three key areas:

Engineering Compliance
You will review current engineering compliance arrangements across multiple sites, establish a structured compliance register and identify gaps, risks and overdue actions.

This will include areas such as pressure systems, lifting equipment, LEV, electrical compliance, machinery safety and guarding, structural inspections, fire and life-safety systems, gas systems, workplace transport and wider statutory engineering inspections.

You will help establish clear inspection and maintenance schedules, ownership, escalation processes and reporting to give the business greater visibility and control of engineering compliance.

Engineering Standards
You will review existing engineering standards, procedures and specifications and develop consistent group-level requirements where gaps exist.

Areas will include equipment design and installation, machinery safety, electrical and mechanical standards, guarding, isolation and lockout, contractor works, commissioning, engineering documentation, maintenance requirements and asset record keeping.

The focus will be on creating standards that are practical, proportionate and capable of being implemented across operational sites.

Equipment Management & Obsolescence
You will support the development of a structured approach to equipment and asset management, reviewing existing asset registers and identifying critical or ageing equipment.

You will develop methodologies around equipment criticality, condition and obsolescence, identifying risks associated with reliability, safety, unsupported systems, spare-parts availability and equipment lifecycle.

Your work will contribute directly to prioritised replacement plans, maintenance strategy and future capital investment.

Key Deliverables

The initial programme will include a baseline compliance assessment, consolidated engineering compliance register, prioritised gap analysis and action plan, engineering standards programme, equipment criticality and obsolescence methodology, lifecycle risk register and a clear roadmap for embedding the new framework into business-as-usual operations.

About You

We are looking for an experienced engineering professional with a strong background in engineering compliance, maintenance, asset management or engineering assurance.

You will ideally have experience within manufacturing, minerals, heavy industry, process operations or another highly regulated industrial environment, alongside a practical understanding of statutory engineering requirements and inspection regimes.

Experience developing engineering standards, procedures or management systems is important, along with knowledge of asset registers, equipment criticality, lifecycle management and obsolescence planning.

You will need to be confident working independently, engaging with engineering teams and senior stakeholders and challenging existing practices where required.

A relevant Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Maintenance or Engineering qualification is required. Professional registration or additional qualifications relating to machinery safety, asset management, functional safety or statutory compliance would be advantageous.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent contract opportunity for an experienced Compliance Engineer who enjoys taking ownership of complex engineering challenges and building systems that make a genuine operational difference.

The assignment will involve travel across UK operational sites and regular engagement with the Head of Engineering.
