Position Overview: The Facilities Engineer will be required to support the development and delivery of maintenance strategies concerning facilities, site services, and associated plant infrastructure. The role will also be responsible for the selection, development, and coordination of contractors to deliver service excellence, along with maintaining the sites facility to a high standard. |
Key Responsibilities:
- Broad base of engineering skills for effective technical support and maintenance of equipment/processes and is able to develop appropriate skills of others through effective leadership.
- Development and coordination of Planned Maintenance Work Orders within CMMS.
- Deliver operational excellence in Facilities Engineering supporting Key Performance Indicators.
- Dealing with all facility issues and reaching out for support to Engineering maint team as & when required.
- Manage contractors on site who provide maintenance services, along with critically reviewing performance and delivery as detailed in a service contract agreement. Conduct site inductions, issuing permits and reviewing risk assessments and method statements.
- Developing and maintaining the Facilities Engineering annual budget requirements and spend plan to support the Annual Operational Plan. (AOP) look to continuously improve service levels and costs.
- Identify, source & maintain critical spares to support business continuity demands.
- Raise purchase orders using SAP.
- Develop and execute appropriate projects to support site facilities in line with site strategic plan.
- Asses the technical complexity of the task/project and matches appropriate resource to safely undertake accomplishment of that task/project.
- Continuously improve their own skill base through individual training, assessment, and educational programs, and is able to develop appropriate skills in others by effective leadership.
- Ability to analyse technical problems and develop appropriate solutions.
- PC skills: Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, project manager, writing reports and use of MS Power-point to present to others.
- Willingly embraces change and has a positive attitude to delivering results, working with others.
- Demonstrate good manufacturing practice (CGMP) for medical devices.
- Understands the principles of effective maintenance and is effective at implementing the principles and maintaining the systems for full effectiveness.
- Identifies and implements continuous improvements, including use of TPM techniques to improve business efficiencies.
- Ability to effectively plan & communicate within the operations using tools and technologies available.
- Ability to work to and set the highest standards in health and safety. Capable of setting and maintaining the highest standards of housekeeping in all aspects of work.
- Management of contractors to adhere to meet high standards and conform with all safety and quality compliance.
Authority (if applicable):
Management of contractors, raising PTW and sign off, of facility work activities & contracts.
Skills & Experience:
- Broad Experience in Facilities and Building management, demonstrated experience in management of infrastructure and services, e.g. compressed air systems, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems and controls, Fire Protection systems, Lighting etc. Basic experience in civil engineering / construction projects.
- Awareness of 'Regulated Quality'
- Experience of or capability to adapt to a multi-skilled, flexible way of working, with effective range of skills across mechanical, electrical, and other aspects.
- Experience of working with, supervising, and taking responsibility for external contractors and other service providers.
- Ability to support the effective operation of a Permit to Work system and other procedures and controls in support of this.
- Experience in working with building management systems (BMS) and clean room control, have experience in maintaining clean rooms to ISO classifications, BSI and FDA guidance and quality systems such as 21 CFR Part 820.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse technical problems and develop appropriate solutions.
- Experience in developing successful new systems, practices, procedures within a Production/Maintenance Engineering technical operation.
- Ability to judge the technical complexity of a task/activity and match appropriate resource to undertake successful accomplishment of that task/project.
- Experience of effective communication skills in verbal and written formats, Continuous and on-going development of skills and experience.
- Evidence of understanding and capability across mechanical, electrical and control functions, also basic building maintenance. Evidence of ability to communicate this knowledge to others.
- Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings.
- Understanding of maintenance/technical support of diverse manufacturing processes. Thorough grasp of standards required to make this interface effective.
- Understanding of principles/systems to support effective maintenance of a broad range of facilities and utilities.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of engineering within the Medical Device industry, ISO8 clean room standards and associated regulations.
Qualifications/Education:
- HNC, HND in an Engineering & Technical field / M&E Facilities.
- Craft technician qualifications & NVQ 4 desirable including an understanding of both mechanical and electrical aspects.
- Management qualifications, equivalent to ILM.
- IOSH Managing Safely & or other Safety Qualifications such a s NEBOSH General Cert desirable.
- Contractor management
- A good understanding of working safely to current legislation such as 'Health & Safety at Work act 1974'. Experience of working to SOP's, Work Instructions, health & safety policies, risk assessments, method statements and site isolations & permits as required.

Principal Contacts & Purpose of Contact
Internal - Maintenance Team, Automation, Control Team, EHS lead and all other departments.
External - communicating and meeting with companies who provide a service to our client regarding maintenance support to all plant equipment. Addressing any issues with the level of service provided and responding to recommendations or remedial work.
Travel Requirements
Occasional travel may be required within UK inline with project delivery
