Duties:
Contract Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
6 Months - Cambridge
Days based role (7am - 4pm with flex for breakdowns)
Our client seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering & Maintenance team. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant and processing equipment through planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving equipment reliability, reducing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on mechanical plant and production equipment
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults efficiently to minimise production downtime
- Maintain equipment including conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, crushers, mixers, rotary equipment, pneumatic systems, and associated plant machinery
- Conduct inspections and condition monitoring to identify potential equipment failures before they occur
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed in accordance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
- Complete maintenance documentation, work orders, and asset history records using the site's Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement activities to improve plant reliability and maintenance performance
- Work closely with production teams to plan maintenance activities with minimal operational disruption
Skills & Experience Required
- Time-served Mechanical Engineer with a recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
- Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within manufacturing, mineral processing, heavy industry, quarrying, or similar process environments
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Experience with preventative and predictive maintenance techniques
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation Experience using CMMS software
- Good understanding of mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, drives, pumps, and rotating equipment
- Strong commitment to health and safety and safe systems of work
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently
- Able to write own risk assessments
