About You
We are looking for a committed and compassionate English Teacher who understands both the challenges and rewards of working within an SEMH setting. You will:
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Have experience teaching English at secondary level
- Demonstrate strong behaviour management skills and emotional resilience
- Be patient, empathetic, and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs
- Be adaptable and creative in your teaching approach
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Be committed to inclusive education and helping every student succeed
Experience working within an SEMH, SEN, or alternative provision setting is highly desirable, but strong mainstream teachers with the right mindset and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
The Role
As an English Teacher in this SEMH setting, you will play a key role in helping students overcome barriers to learning and rediscover confidence in education.
You will deliver engaging and accessible English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, adapting your teaching to meet a wide range of needs and abilities, while fostering a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment. Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering differentiated English lessons tailored to individual needs
- Supporting students with SEMH needs to re-engage with learning
- Creating a calm, structured, and positive classroom environment
- Using a patient and flexible approach to behaviour management
- Monitoring progress and implementing targeted interventions
- Working closely with pastoral teams and external professionals
- Contributing to curriculum development and the wider school ethos
