Duties:

English Teacher – SEN (East London)
Specialist Therapeutic Setting | Full-Time | Permanent (Term-Time Only)
Competitive Salary | September or ASAP Start

Are you a qualified English Teacher looking to move into a more therapeutic, relationship-focused setting?

Do you have experience supporting pupils with autism, SEMH or those disengaged from mainstream education?

Ready to deliver creative, meaningful lessons that genuinely re-engage young people?

A specialist education provider is seeking a passionate English Teacher to join their community-based provision in East London. This full-time, permanent role involves working with KS3 and KS4 pupils who require a personalised, nurturing approach to learning.

The setting follows a therapeutic model, with a strong focus on relationships, emotional wellbeing and consistency. Pupils often have EHCPs and present with needs including autism, attachment difficulties and SEMH.

You will deliver engaging, differentiated English lessons in small group community settings and via virtual learning, working closely with Learning Mentors and therapeutic teams to support both academic and emotional development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality English and literacy lessons across KS3–KS4
  • Planning and differentiating for neurodiverse learners
  • Supporting EHCP targets and pupil re-engagement
  • Working closely with Learning Mentors to provide tailored support
  • Creating engaging, confidence-building lessons
  • Delivering both face-to-face and virtual learning
  • Promoting positive behaviour through consistent, relationship-led approaches
  • Tracking and reporting on pupil progress
  • Supporting emotional regulation and recognising behaviour as communication

You will play a key role in developing pupils’ literacy, confidence and independence through a flexible, creative curriculum often linked to real-life contexts.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity within a supportive, values-driven environment that prioritises staff development and wellbeing.

We are looking for teachers who:

  • Hold QTS or QTLS (English specialism)
  • Have experience with SEN, particularly autism and/or SEMH
  • Understand barriers to mainstream education
  • Are calm, resilient and relationship-focused
  • Have high expectations and a pupil-centred approach
  • Can confidently differentiate and adapt teaching styles
  • Are organised, proactive and flexible

Experience in alternative provision or specialist settings is desirable, though strong mainstream teachers with relevant SEN experience are encouraged to apply.

This is an excellent opportunity to step into a progressive role within therapeutic education and make a genuine impact.
