A well-established all-age specialist SEN school in Haringey is seeking an experienced Teacher to join its team from September 2026 on a long-term temporary basis.

The school supports children and young people with a broad range of complex needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), moderate to severe Autism, physical disabilities, medical needs and significant communication difficulties. Pupils require highly personalised educational programmes focused on developing communication, independence, functional academic skills and wider personal development.

The school has both Primary and Secondary provision, although for this particular requirement they are especially interested in experienced teachers with a strong Primary background who are comfortable delivering learning across different developmental levels.

This role is not aimed at ECTs. The school is looking for an experienced practitioner who can bring strong classroom practice, confidently lead support staff and adapt quickly to the needs of pupils with complex SEND.

There is flexibility around working pattern, with the school able to consider candidates looking for 3, 4 or 5 days per week depending on availability and suitability.

Key responsibilities include:

• Planning and delivering engaging, highly differentiated learning for pupils with complex SEND.
• Supporting children and young people with PMLD, SLD, Autism and associated learning difficulties.
• Developing pupils' communication, independence and functional academic skillsthrough meaningful, individualised learning.
• Using assessment effectively to identify individual starting points and inform future planning.
• Developing and maintaining personalised educational and pastoral support plans where required.
• Setting ambitious but achievable targets based around each pupil's individual needs and abilities.
• Creating a calm, nurturing and purposeful classroom environment.
• Leading and deploying Teaching Assistants effectively to ensure pupils receive consistent, high-quality support.
• Working across different ability levels and adapting curriculum content significantly where required.
• Using creative and inclusive teaching approaches to ensure pupils can access meaningful learning opportunities.
• Supporting pupils to become increasingly independent across both their learning and wider development.
• Contributing to inclusion opportunities, including learning outside the classroom where appropriate.
• Monitoring and recording pupil progress through effective formative and summative assessment.
• Working closely with parents and families to support pupil progress and wellbeing.
• Collaborating with therapists and other multidisciplinary professionals involved in pupils' education and care.
• Contributing positively to curriculum development and wider school improvement.
• Maintaining the highest standards of safeguarding and care for vulnerable children and young people.

The school's full specification particularly emphasises teachers being able to teach across ability ranges, contribute to creative and inclusive schemes of work, use pupil-progress information to improve teaching and develop appropriate interventions to help pupils achieve their potential.

We are looking for:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• An experienced classroom teacher
• Ideally, a strong background within Primary education.
• Previous experience teaching pupils with SEND is highly desirable.
• Experience supporting PMLD, SLD, Autism or other complex learning needswould be particularly beneficial.
• A strong understanding of how SEND can affect learning, communication and development.
• Confidence teaching pupils who may be working significantly below age-related expectations.
• Strong knowledge of differentiation, adaptive teaching and assessment for learning.
• The ability to lead and organise classroom support staff effectively.
• A calm, empathetic and patient approach when supporting pupils with highly complex needs.
• Confidence responding creatively and positively to complex behaviour.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• The ability to work effectively as both a classroom leader and member of a wider multidisciplinary team.
• A genuine commitment to ensuring pupils with complex SEND receive ambitious and meaningful learning opportunities.
