Looking for a Graduate Role That Actually Matters?

Most graduate jobs promise development.

Few offer the opportunity to genuinely change lives.

A leading secondary school in Barnet is searching for an exceptional Graduate Academic Mentor to join their team from September 2026. This is an opportunity for a high-calibre graduate to work directly with young people, helping them unlock their potential whilst developing invaluable professional skills of their own.

Whether your degree is in Humanities, Sciences, Social Sciences, Languages, Business, Psychology, or a related field, this role offers a unique chance to gain meaningful experience within an ambitious and supportive school environment.

Why Graduates Are Drawn to This Role

You won't spend your day making coffee.

You won't be hidden behind a desk.

You won't be another number in a corporate graduate scheme.

Instead, you'll become a mentor, coach, role model, and trusted source of support for students navigating some of the most important years of their education.

You'll celebrate successes, build confidence, raise aspirations, and help young people achieve outcomes they never thought possible.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Graduate Academic Mentor, you'll play a key role across the school by:

  • Delivering one-to-one and small-group academic mentoring
  • Supporting students who need additional encouragement and guidance
  • Helping pupils prepare for examinations and assessments
  • Working alongside outstanding teachers and pastoral leaders
  • Supporting intervention programmes designed to raise attainment
  • Building meaningful relationships with students
  • Acting as a positive role model throughout the school community

No two days will be the same, but every day will make a difference.

Why This School?

  • Outstanding reputation for graduate development
  • Exceptional mentoring from experienced educators
  • Diverse and ambitious student population
  • Strong track record of graduates progressing into teacher training
  • Extensive professional development opportunities
  • Inclusive and supportive staff culture
  • Modern facilities and excellent resources

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking graduates who have:

  • A 2:1 degree or above from a leading university
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Emotional intelligence and maturity
  • Confidence working with young people
  • A genuine passion for education and social mobility

Previous school experience is not essential.

What matters most is your ability to inspire, motivate, and support students to achieve their full potential.

More Than Just a Job

Many former Graduate Academic Mentors have gone on to successful careers in teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, counselling, social work, policy, and leadership.

The experience, confidence, and professional skills gained in this role will set you apart in any future career.
