Are you a Psychology graduate looking to make a real difference in young people's lives?

KPI Education is partnering with a school in Maidstone to recruit a motivated and empathetic Academic Mentor to support pupils with their academic progress, confidence and emotional wellbeing.

This is an excellent opportunity for Psychology graduates looking to apply their degree in an educational setting and gain valuable experience before pursuing a career in educational psychology, teaching, counselling, child psychology or specialist education.

If you have experience tutoring, mentoring or supporting young people, this is an opportunity to build on your existing skills while making a meaningful difference.

The Role

As an Academic Mentor, you will work closely with pupils who may face barriers to learning, helping them develop effective study habits, improve their engagement and build confidence in their abilities.

You will take a supportive, pupil-centred approach, using your understanding of behaviour, motivation and individual learning needs to help young people reach their potential.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group academic support in core subjects.
  • Using mentoring techniques to improve pupils' confidence, motivation and engagement.
  • Applying psychological principles to understand learning behaviours and individual needs.
  • Supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Helping pupils develop positive routines, resilience and independent learning skills.
  • Building trusting relationships and encouraging positive behaviour.
  • Monitoring progress and adapting support to meet individual needs.
  • Creating a safe, inclusive and encouraging learning environment.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are particularly interested in Psychology graduates who are passionate about child development, behaviour and helping young people overcome challenges.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A First or 2:1 degree in Psychology, Education or a related subject.
  • Previous tutoring, mentoring or teaching experience, ideally working with children or young people.
  • A good understanding of motivation, behaviour and individual learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A patient, empathetic and proactive approach.
  • The ability to motivate pupils and adapt to different needs.
  • A genuine interest in supporting young people's academic and emotional development.

Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH needs or behavioural challenges would be particularly beneficial.

What's on Offer?

  • £500-£600 per week, subject to assignment and applicable terms.
  • Valuable practical experience for aspiring educational psychologists and other psychology professionals.
  • The opportunity to apply psychological knowledge in a real educational setting.
  • Experience developing mentoring, behaviour-support and academic intervention skills.
  • The chance to make a genuine difference to young people's confidence, wellbeing and progress.
  • Ongoing support from an education recruitment team.
