As a Graduate English Learning Mentor, you will join a thriving secondary school in Leeds, supporting students and working alongside experienced English teachers. The Role

As a Graduate English Learning Mentor, you will support pupils across Key Stage 3, GCSE, and potentially A-Level English Language and Literature, helping them to improve attainment, develop confidence, and strengthen their literacy skills.

From leading intervention sessions to providing one-to-one support, you will play an important role within the English department and become a valued member of the school community from day one.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted academic support across KS3, GCSE, and A-Level English
  • Lead small-group and one-to-one intervention sessions
  • Support students in developing their reading, writing, comprehension, and analytical skills
  • Help pupils improve essay-writing techniques and exam performance
  • Encourage confidence in literary analysis, creative writing, and written communication
  • Support students preparing for assessments, GCSEs, and A-Level examinations
  • Work closely with English teachers to raise attainment and engagement
  • Assist within lessons and contribute to a positive learning environment

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • A minimum 2:1 degree in English, English Literature, English Language, Journalism, Creative Writing, History, or a related humanities subject
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong academic understanding of English Language and/or Literature
  • A genuine passion for education and supporting young people
  • An ambition to pursue a career in teaching or education

Desirable

  • Previous tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or classroom-based experience
  • Knowledge of the GCSE English Language and English Literature curriculum
  • Experience working with young people in an educational setting
