The Role – Graduate English Teaching Assistant

As a valued member of the English department, your responsibilities will include:

  • Working one-to-one and in small groups with students who require additional support in English.
  • Assisting in the delivery of dynamic and engaging English lessons.
  • Supporting pupils with GCSE preparation, coursework, and literacy development.
  • Encouraging thoughtful discussion and deeper engagement with English literature and language.
  • Helping to identify and overcome barriers to learning, especially in writing and comprehension.
  • Preparing learning materials and maintaining an organised classroom environment.
  • Collaborating with SEN and pastoral staff to ensure every student thrives.

What We’re Looking For – Graduate English Teaching Assistant

We welcome applications from recent graduates who are:

  • Educated to degree level (2:1 or above) in English, English Literature, or a related discipline.
  • Academically strong with excellent A-Level and GCSE English results.
  • Passionate about English education and enthusiastic about working with young people.
  • Confident communicators with strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Resilient, reflective, and adaptable when supporting students of mixed abilities.
  • Looking to pursue a long-term career in education – whether through teaching or academic support.
  • Prior experience working with young people is desirable, though not essential.
