We are recruiting a Graduate English Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic secondary school in the Sheffield area. This role centres on supporting English across KS3 and KS4, helping students build essential literacy skills and deepen their understanding of a wide range of texts.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Full-time position on a permanent contract – long-term roles also available
- Competitive salary
- Support students across KS3 and KS4
- Deliver focused interventions, including 1:1 support and small group tuition
- Help develop reading comprehension, analytical writing, and essay structuring skills
- Work with teachers to monitor progress and support attainment across ability levels
- Immediate start or September 2026 available
Who We’re Looking For:
- A graduate with a 2:1 degree or higher in English Literature, English Language, or related
- Secure subject knowledge, including literary analysis, context, and critical interpretation
- Experience working with young people – desirable but not essential
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate learners
- Organised, adaptable, and committed to raising literacy standards
- Available full-time, Monday–Friday during term time
- Right to work in the UK
What the Role Offers:
This role provides hands-on experience in a secondary English department, ideal for those considering teacher training or a career in education. You will support lesson delivery, contribute to planning, and help achieve department targets. A key focus will be delivering targeted interventions to improve reading fluency, written accuracy, and the ability to construct clear, evidence-based arguments. You will also help students prepare for GCSE exams, developing their confidence in responding to unseen texts, analysing language, and crafting structured answers.
