A welcoming secondary school in Birmingham is looking for an enthusiastic Graduate English Teaching Assistant to join its team. This is a fantastic opportunity to put your subject knowledge into practice while helping students develop their confidence, literacy and communication skills.
What will you be doing?
Working alongside experienced English teachers, you'll provide additional support to students across the English curriculum. You'll help pupils develop their reading, writing and analytical skills, while encouraging them to become more confident and independent learners.
You'll work with students 1:1, in small groups and within the wider classroom, giving you valuable experience supporting a range of learners.
Key responsibilities
As a Graduate English Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group supportacross the English curriculum
- Help students develop their reading, writing and comprehension skills
- Support pupils with essay writing, analysis and developing their ideas
- Assist teachers with classroom activities and differentiated learning tasks
- Encourage students to engage positively with English and literature
- Help learners develop their confidence and independent study skills
- Support students who require additional guidance with literacy
- Work collaboratively with English teachers and wider school staff
- Provide feedback on student progress where appropriate
Who are we looking for?
We're keen to hear from graduates with:
- An English, English Literature or closely related degree, ideally at 2:1 or above
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent subject knowledge and a genuine enthusiasm for English
- A genuine interest in working with young people
- Patience, enthusiasm and a positive attitude
- Previous experience working with children or young people (desirable, but not essential)
Previous school experience isn't essential. We're looking for graduates who can bring strong subject knowledge, confidence and a genuine desire to help young people succeed.
