We are working with a supportive secondary school in Coventry who are looking for a motivated Graduate English Teaching Assistant to join their team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to put your degree to practical use while helping students develop their literacy, confidence and communication skills.

The Role

Working alongside experienced English teachers, you'll provide additional support to students across the English curriculum.

You'll work with pupils 1:1, in small groups and within the classroom, helping learners overcome barriers, strengthen their skills and become more confident in their ability.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group supportacross English
• Helping students develop their reading, writing and comprehension
• Supporting pupils with essay writing, analysis and developing ideas
• Helping students engage with English Language and Literature
• Breaking down challenging concepts and explaining them in an accessible way
• Assisting teachers with differentiated classroom activities
• Encouraging positive participation and engagement in English lessons
• Helping students develop confidence and independent learning skills
• Providing additional literacy support where required
• Working collaboratively with English teachers and the wider school team
• Sharing observations and feedback on student progress where appropriate

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for a graduate who can bring both strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for working with young people.

You'll ideally have:

• An English, English Literature or closely related degree, ideally at 2:1 or above
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent knowledge of your subject
• The ability to explain ideas clearly and confidently
• A genuine interest in supporting young people
• Patience, enthusiasm and a positive approach
• The ability to build positive relationships with students

Previous classroom experience isn't essential.

Experience through tutoring, mentoring, volunteering or working with young people would be advantageous, but we're also keen to hear from graduates who have the right personality, communication skills and desire to make a difference.
