An ambitious and inclusive secondary school in Islington is seeking a driven and intellectually curious Graduate Humanities Academic Mentor to join their thriving Humanities department from September 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate aspiring to pursue a career in teaching, academia, or educational research.

About the Role – Graduate Humanities Academic Mentor

As a Graduate Humanities Academic Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting student progress and engagement across a range of Humanities subjects. You’ll work closely with expert teachers to help students develop skills in critical thinking, essay writing, source evaluation, and independent learning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering targeted 1:1 and small group academic interventions.
  • Supporting students with essay structure, source analysis, and revision strategies.
  • Assisting teachers in the classroom and adapting support to suit different learning needs.
  • Creating engaging, high-quality resources and study materials.
  • Encouraging debate, inquiry, and intellectual curiosity among students.
  • Collaborating with teaching staff to track and support student achievement.

What We’re Looking For – Graduate Humanities Academic Mentor

This is the perfect role for a Humanities graduate with a strong academic record and a desire to inspire young minds.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A 2:1 degree or higher in a Humanities subject (e.g., History, Politics, Geography, Philosophy, Religious Studies, or Classics).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A genuine passion for the Humanities and for sharing knowledge.
  • A proactive, empathetic, and professional attitude.
  • The ability to build rapport with students and support their learning journey.
  • Experience working with young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, outreach) is desirable but not essential.
