Graduate Learning Support Assistant

Birmingham | Full-Time | £20,000–£25,000

Not every graduate career starts behind a desk. Some start by changing lives.

Are you a graduate who wants to do work that genuinely matters?

If you're passionate about helping young people build confidence, overcome barriers and reach their potential, a career in education could be the direction for you.

KPI Education is working with an inclusive secondary school in Birmingham seeking a Graduate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join its team.

This opportunity is particularly suited to graduates considering future careers in teaching, Special Educational Needs, educational psychology or wider education-based professions, offering valuable first-hand experience of supporting young people with additional needs.

Be part of every student's progress

As a Graduate LSA, you'll work alongside teachers and the wider school support team to help students access learning and make progress in an environment where their individual needs are recognised.

You'll provide tailored support, helping pupils develop their skills, strengthen their relationships and become increasingly confident and independent learners.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEN.

  • Helping pupils access classroom learning, activities and curriculum content.

  • Encouraging students to remain focused, engaged and motivated.

  • Reinforcing learning and adapting your approach to individual requirements.

  • Supporting the development of social, emotional and communication skills.

  • Assisting teachers with differentiated learning activities.

  • Establishing positive, trusting relationships with students.

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and wider support staff.

  • Sharing relevant observations about student progress and wellbeing.

  • Encouraging greater confidence, resilience and independence.

Students may have a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD and dyslexia.

What qualities are we looking for?

Academic ability is important, but so are empathy, patience and the ability to connect with young people.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • A strong academic background, preferably a 2:1 degree or above.

  • A genuine interest in education and supporting young people.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, resilience and empathy.

  • A flexible and positive approach to different situations.

  • The ability to establish supportive relationships with students.

  • A commitment to helping young people overcome challenges and achieve their potential.

Experience working with children or young people is desirable, but not essential.

Perhaps you've gained experience through tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, coaching or another people-focused role. Whatever your background, we're interested in graduates who can demonstrate the compassion, enthusiasm and attitude needed to make a meaningful contribution.

Where could this opportunity lead?

For graduates exploring a future in education, practical experience can be an important part of understanding where your strengths and interests lie.

This role offers the chance to:

  • Develop hands-on experience supporting students with additional needs.

  • Build confidence within a secondary school environment.

  • Strengthen your communication, mentoring and support skills.

  • Gain insight into inclusive education and SEN provision.

  • Learn from experienced teachers and education professionals.

  • Access training and professional development opportunities.

  • Develop relevant experience for teacher training or future education-based careers.

  • Become part of a collaborative school team.

Make your first move towards a rewarding career.

If you're a graduate looking to develop professionally while helping young people navigate challenges, build independence and succeed in education, we'd love to hear from you.
