Job Type: Full Time
Duties:
Graduate Maths Teacher Training | Starting Salary £26,761 | PGCE + QTS in 12 Months
Is your degree in Mathematics opening doors — but you're not sure which one to walk through? If you've ever considered teaching, this could be the opportunity that changes everything.
Launch your Maths teaching career in Carlisle this September.
The opportunity
Do you see teaching as more than just a job? At our Carlisle secondary school, we're looking for enthusiastic Maths graduates — or aspiring teachers with strong A-level Mathematics — who want to turn their passion for numbers into a genuinely rewarding career.
We want future teachers who bring clarity, enthusiasm, and analytical thinking to the classroom — whether that's unpacking algebra, exploring geometry, or showing students how Maths connects to the real world.
Why choose us?
- Earn while you train — a £26,761 starting salary from day one, so you're never out of pocket while you qualify
- Qualify in 12 months — gain both a PGCE and QTS, nationally recognised qualifications that open doors to schools across England
- Ofsted 'Outstanding' rated — with a 95% trainee success rate, you'll be in the best possible hands
- Hands-on from the start — our programme is built around real classroom experience, not just academic theory
- Dedicated mentorship — you'll be supported every step of the way by experienced Maths teachers who are invested in your success
- Modern facilities — specialist Maths resources and up-to-date learning technology at your fingertips
The school
Our Carlisle secondary school has a strong reputation for Maths education, with impressive results at both GCSE and A-Level. You'll join a collaborative, welcoming Maths department and get involved in enrichment activities including Maths clubs, competitions, and targeted intervention programmes — giving you a well-rounded experience from day one.
How the training year works
We use a 4+1 model — four days a week in school, with Wednesdays dedicated to online PGCE study and professional development.
- September to December — Observe lessons, team-teach alongside your mentor, and build confidence in the classroom
- January to March — Take ownership of lesson planning and delivery, and begin developing your assessment strategies
- April to July — Teach independently, sharpen your classroom management, and complete your PGCE and QTS
What you'll need
- A degree in Mathematics or a closely related numerate discipline (2:1 or above preferred), or strong A-level Mathematics
- A genuine enthusiasm for Maths and a desire to inspire the next generation
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- The drive and commitment to grow into an outstanding teacher
A driving licence is useful but not essential — Carlisle is well connected by public transport.
