This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate who is seriously considering a career in teaching and wants to gain real classroom experience while being paid to train. You will work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through a structured, immersive school-based route designed to develop confident, reflective and highly effective teachers.
What the Role Involves
As a Graduate Maths Teacher Trainee, you will become an integral part of a dynamic Maths department in a supportive Portsmouth secondary school. Your training journey will be carefully structured and progressively build your independence.
You will:
- Support the delivery of engaging Mathematics lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
- Work closely with pupils in small groups and one-to-one sessions to improve understanding and confidence.
- Learn how to plan, deliver, and assess lessons effectively with expert guidance.
- Observe outstanding practitioners and gradually implement their strategies into your own teaching.
- Take part in weekly training sessions focused on classroom management, pedagogy, and curriculum design.
- Step by step, begin to lead your own lessons as your experience develops.
This role is designed to give you genuine classroom responsibility while ensuring you are fully supported throughout your training year.

Who We Are Looking For

You should have:
- A degree in Mathematics or a closely related discipline (2:1 or above preferred).
- GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or equivalent.
- A clear enthusiasm for working with young people and supporting their learning.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
- A resilient, motivated, and professional attitude.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
Prior school experience is helpful but not essential—what matters most is your commitment, potential, and willingness to learn.
