The opportunity

Do you see teaching as more than just a job? At our Burnley secondary school, we're searching for passionate Music graduates (or those with strong A-levels in relevant subjects) who want to make a difference to young people's understanding of our musical world.

We need someone who can bring energy to teaching topics from music theory to composition, from performance techniques to music history.

Training structure

4+1 Model: Four days in school developing practical teaching skills, with one day per week (Wednesdays) for online professional development.

  • September–December: Observe expert teaching, team-teach with mentors, develop basic classroom management.
  • January–March: Take increasing responsibility for planning and teaching, focus on assessment strategies.
  • April–July: Lead classes independently, develop advanced teaching techniques, complete QTS qualification.

What you'll need

  • Music, Music Education or related degree (2:1 or higher preferred)
  • OR strong A-levels in Music, Music Technology or Performance
  • Passion for musical education and current musical trends
  • Communication skills that will engage young people
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Driving licence beneficial but not essential – good public transport links available
