Graduate Pastoral & Behaviour Mentor

Wolverhampton | Full-Time | £20,000–£25,000

Your degree could be the start of a career that changes lives.

Not every student needs the same kind of support. Sometimes, having someone who listens, offers encouragement and helps them see what they are capable of can make all the difference.

Are you a graduate with a genuine interest in young people's wellbeing, behaviour and personal development? Would you like to put your communication and interpersonal skills to use in a role where every day brings an opportunity to make a positive contribution?

KPI Education is working with a secondary school in Wolverhampton seeking a motivated Graduate Pastoral & Behaviour Mentor to join its team.

Whether you're considering teaching, psychology, youth work, SEND or a career in pastoral support, this position offers valuable experience of working directly with young people in an educational setting.

What will you be doing?

You'll provide guidance and encouragement to students who may need additional support to feel confident, remain engaged and make positive progress at school.

Working alongside teaching staff and the pastoral team, you'll help young people navigate challenges, develop their independence and build a more positive relationship with education.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering 1:1 and small-group mentoring sessions

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with students

  • Supporting improvements in behaviour, attendance and engagement

  • Encouraging confidence, resilience and greater independence

  • Promoting positive decision-making and attitudes towards learning

  • Providing support to students with additional needs or challenging circumstances

  • Recognising potential barriers to learning and progress

  • Collaborating with teachers and pastoral colleagues

  • Contributing to a welcoming, calm and inclusive school environment

  • Providing consistency, encouragement and a positive role model

Could this be the right opportunity for you?

We're keen to hear from graduates who are enthusiastic about helping young people develop, particularly those who can demonstrate the maturity and interpersonal skills needed to build meaningful professional relationships.

You'll ideally bring:

  • A minimum 2:1 degree

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities

  • A confident, approachable and professional manner

  • Patience, empathy and resilience

  • The ability to build rapport while maintaining appropriate boundaries

  • A calm and consistent approach when faced with challenging situations

  • A proactive attitude and willingness to get involved

  • An interest in pursuing a career supporting young people

You don't need previous school-based experience to apply.

Experience gained through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, volunteering, youth work or similar activities would be beneficial. However, we're equally interested in graduates who can demonstrate the right attitude, commitment and enthusiasm for the role.

Where could this experience take you?

This position offers the chance to develop practical skills and gain first-hand insight into the challenges and rewards of working in a secondary school.

You'll have the opportunity to strengthen your experience in:

  • Behaviour support and student wellbeing

  • Mentoring, motivating and encouraging young people

  • Establishing effective professional relationships

  • Recognising barriers that can affect learning

  • Supporting students with a range of needs and circumstances

  • Working collaboratively with teachers and pastoral professionals

  • Developing your communication, confidence and workplace skills

For graduates considering teacher training, educational psychology, counselling, youth work, SEND or wider pastoral careers, this could be a valuable step towards your longer-term ambitions.

Ready to take the first step?

If you're looking for more than a graduate job and want to build experience that could shape your future career, we'd love to hear from you.
