Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant: Key Responsibility’s

As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support 1:1 and small group interventions for pupils with SEN, including those with EHCPs
  • Assist teachers with lesson planning and delivery, ensuring activities are adapted to individual needs
  • Support social, emotional, and academic development, helping pupils gain confidence and independence
  • Observe and report on pupil progress to the SENCO and teaching team
  • Gain hands-on experience to prepare for a career in teaching, educational psychology, or therapy

Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant: Who We’re Looking for

The ideal Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant will have:

  • A 2:1 or higher degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, or a related field (Russell Group/top-30 preferred)
  • Strong academic record at GCSE and A-Level
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong understanding of SEN needs and ability to adapt teaching strategies to support individual learning styles and requirements.
  • Patience, resilience, and the ability to stay calm under pressure
  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with SEN and helping them achieve their potential
  • Previous experience in a school, volunteering, or SEN setting is desirable but not essential
