Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant: Your Role
As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs
- Support students on EHCPs, helping them achieve personalised learning goals
- Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to adapt lessons for accessibility
- Encourage positive behaviour and social interaction both inside and outside the classroom
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to boost confidence and engagement
- Assist with classroom organisation, lesson preparation, and targeted interventions
Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant: Candidate Specification
In order to succeed in this Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant role, you must:
- A 2:1 or higher degree is Psychology, Education, Child Development, English, Social Sciences, or a related field from a Russell Group or top-30 university
- Strong academic background through GCSE’s and A-Levels
- A genuine passion for education, inclusion, and supporting children with additional needs
- Strong understanding of SEN and SEMH needs, with the ability to adapt strategies to meet individual requirements
- Experience or confidence in working with pupils on EHCPs, tailoring support to match their personalised learning goals
- Knowledge or willingness to learn key SEN communication tools such as Makaton, PECS, visual timetables, and other evidence-based strategies
