Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain meaningful, school-based experience supporting pupils with additional needs?

A welcoming and well-regarded mainstream secondary school in Birmingham is seeking a dedicated Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their SEN support team. This full-time, long-term role is ideal for graduates who are considering a future career in educational psychology, SEN teaching, or child-focused therapeutic pathways and want first-hand experience in a mainstream education setting.

The Role

As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support students with additional learning needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group interventions to help pupils access the curriculum.
  • Work closely with the SENCO, class teachers, and external professionals.
  • Assist in implementing EHCP strategies and tailored support plans.
  • Help pupils develop confidence, independence, and positive learning behaviours.
  • Contribute to an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

This role offers invaluable exposure to SEN provision within a mainstream school and is excellent preparation for postgraduate routes in psychology or education.

Person Specification

We are looking for a graduate who:

  • Holds a 2:1 or above in Psychology or a closely related subject.
  • Has a strong interest in supporting children with additional needs.
  • Is patient, empathetic, and resilient.
  • Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Has experience working with young people (desirable but not essential).
