Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant

KPI Education is working with high-performing specialist schools in Sheffield to recruit dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants for full-time, long-term positions.

You’ll gain hands-on experience in a specialist setting, working alongside experienced SEN teachers and a multidisciplinary team of therapy professionals.

The school provides highly personalised education for pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASD), speech, language and communication difficulties, moderate to complex learning needs, sensory needs, and associated social and emotional needs.

The Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will help pupils overcome barriers to learning and make meaningful academic, social and personal progress.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support across Secondary and Post-16 settings.

• Supporting pupils with a range of additional learning and communication needs.

• Assisting with personalised lessons, activities and individual learning programmes.

• Developing pupils’ communication, social interaction and emotional regulation skills.

• Supporting pupils to work towards their individual EHCP outcomes and learning targets.

• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive engagement with learning.

• Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team.

• Observing pupil progress and contributing to assessments, reviews and reports.

• Supporting pupils during transitions, breaktimes, enrichment activities and learning outside the classroom.

• Helping to create a safe, structured and nurturing environment where pupils can thrive.

About You

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about making a difference to children and young people with additional needs.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, Autism or additional needs.

• A degree (First Class or 2:1) in teaching, psychology, educational psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy or a related field.

• Experience in education, care, youth work, residential support or another people-focused environment.

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

• A calm, patient and empathetic approach.

• Resilience and consistency when supporting pupils with complex needs.

• A proactive attitude and genuine commitment to helping young people reach their potential.

• A willingness to learn and develop within a specialist SEN setting.

Previous school experience is desirable but not essential. Training and support will be provided for candidates with relevant transferable experience and the right attitude.
