Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant
Have you recently completed your degree and are eager to begin a career dedicated to helping children with additional learning needs?
Are you keen to build your experience within a supportive, nurturing and inclusive SEN primary school in Liverpool, where every child's individual needs are recognised?
Would you welcome the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to young learners while gaining the practical skills and experience needed to pursue a future career in teaching, educational psychology or speech and language therapy?
A welcoming and ambitious SEN primary school in Liverpool is seeking an enthusiastic and empathetic graduate to become part of its team as a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant. This is an excellent long-term opportunity, starting in November 2026 and continuing until the end of the academic year initially.
Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant
- Full-time, long-term Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant role, Monday–Friday
- Earn up to £530 per week
- Become part of an established Liverpool SEN primary school with a real passion for inclusive education and helping every child reach their potential
- Benefit from tailored training, regular guidance and professional development alongside experienced SEN practitioners
- Fantastic preparation for graduates considering teacher training, specialist SEN teaching, psychology or other child-centred professions
- Position commencing November 2026, initially until the end of the academic year
Ideal Candidate – Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant:
- A minimum 2:1 degree, with Psychology, Education and core academic subjects particularly desirable
- A caring, understanding and adaptable personality, with the patience and determination to support children facing additional challenges
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the confidence to communicate effectively with pupils and colleagues
- Any previous involvement in SEN settings, tutoring, mentoring, youth work or working with children would be advantageous, although not essential
- Must have the right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available
The Role – Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant:
As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play an active role in supporting primary-aged children between 4 and 11 who have a variety of additional learning needs. These may include autism, ADHD, learning difficulties and social, emotional or behavioural challenges. You will gain valuable insight into how different needs can influence a child's learning, development and day-to-day experiences within the classroom.
Working closely with class teachers and the wider SEN team, you will deliver dedicated 1:1 assistance and facilitate small-group learning activities designed around individual pupil requirements. You will help make lessons more accessible by adapting resources, breaking down tasks and introducing supportive strategies that encourage engagement, understanding and continued progress.
This Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant position offers an outstanding opportunity for graduates who are serious about pursuing a career within special educational needs and want to develop their understanding through sustained, practical experience. Rather than simply observing classroom practice, you will be actively involved in supporting pupils every day, gaining valuable paid experience and discovering how effective interventions can transform a child's educational journey.
Throughout your time at the school, you will benefit from working alongside knowledgeable SEN professionals who can share their expertise, offer practical advice and help you develop the confidence to succeed. The experience gained will provide an excellent platform for graduates considering progression into teaching, special educational needs, educational psychology, speech and language therapy or other specialist child-focused careers.
