Graduate SEN Youth Mentor – Secondary School & Alternative Provision – Stoke-on-Trent

£26,000–£30,000 per annum | Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm | Full-Time | Immediate Start

Are you a Psychology, Criminology, Sociology or Education graduate looking to make a genuine difference to a young person's future?

Do you have the patience, resilience and emotional intelligence to support a young person with an EHCP who struggles with behaviour and engagement in mainstream education?

Would you thrive in a unique role combining one-to-one support within a secondary school and therapeutic, relationship-led mentoring in an Alternative Provision setting?

KPI Education is recruiting an exceptional Graduate SEN Youth Mentor for an exciting opportunity based in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

This is not your typical Teaching Assistant position.

We're looking for a confident, compassionate and resilient graduate who wants to make a lasting impact on young people facing social, emotional and behavioural challenges.

A Unique Split-Site Opportunity

Your working day will be divided between two educational environments, providing a fantastic opportunity to develop your experience in SEND, behaviour management and alternative education.

Mornings – Secondary School (1:1 EHCP Support)

You'll work closely with a secondary-aged student who has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and requires additional support with behavioural regulation, engagement and emotional wellbeing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building a positive, trusting relationship with the student.

  • Supporting classroom engagement, learning and emotional regulation.

  • Implementing strategies aligned with the student's EHCP.

  • Managing challenging behaviour calmly and consistently.

  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team.

Afternoons – Alternative Provision

You'll transition into an Alternative Provision setting, supporting young people who may have experienced exclusion, disrupted education or significant social, emotional and mental health challenges.

You'll help deliver structured activities, provide positive mentoring and encourage young people to re-engage with education.

Who Are We Looking For?

We're particularly interested in graduates from:

  • Psychology, Criminology or Sociology

  • Education Studies or Childhood Studies

  • Sports Science or Youth Work

  • Social Work or related disciplines

You'll need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, emotional resilience, confidence managing challenging behaviour and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential, as travel between settings will be required.

Previous experience in SEN, youth mentoring, coaching, care, PRUs or Alternative Provision is advantageous.

The Opportunity

  • Location: Stoke-on-Trent

  • Salary: £26,000–£30,000 per annum

  • Hours: 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday

  • Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term Opportunity

  • Start: ASAP

  • Driving: Essential

Why Apply Through KPI Education?

We specialise in placing ambitious graduates into meaningful educational roles that offer genuine experience and career development.

This opportunity could be an excellent stepping stone towards educational psychology, teaching, SEND, youth work, pastoral leadership or therapeutic education.

Some young people don't need another person telling them what they've done wrong. They need someone who believes in what they could become.

Could that person be you?

Apply today with your CV and a short cover letter explaining your experience, motivation and interest in supporting young people with additional needs.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship and be willing to complete enhanced DBS and safeguarding checks.
