Help students see what they are capable of.
A little extra support can make a significant difference to a young person's experience of education. Could you be the person who helps a student find their confidence, overcome a challenge and recognise their own potential?
Are you a graduate with a genuine interest in supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?
KPI Education is working with an inclusive secondary school in Wolverhampton to recruit a motivated Graduate SEND Teaching Assistant.
This is an opportunity to gain practical experience in education, working alongside experienced teachers and SEND professionals while supporting students with a range of additional needs.
If you're considering a future in teaching, educational psychology, counselling, therapy or specialist SEND support, this could be a valuable starting point.
Your role in the classroom
You'll provide individualised support to help students participate in lessons, develop essential skills and make progress towards their personal goals.
Your contribution will include:
-
Supporting students with SEND through 1:1 and small-group sessions
-
Helping pupils participate in lessons and access the curriculum
-
Encouraging progress towards individual learning targets
-
Reinforcing classroom learning and offering additional guidance
-
Developing students' confidence, independence and communication
-
Building supportive, professional relationships with young people
-
Contributing to students' academic, social and emotional development
-
Liaising with teachers, the SENDCO and pastoral team
-
Adjusting your approach to reflect individual needs
-
Providing relevant feedback and observations about student progress
Students may present with a variety of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language Needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The graduate we're looking for
You don't need to have your entire career mapped out, but you should have a genuine desire to help young people overcome barriers and succeed.
Ideally, you'll have:
-
A 2:1 degree or above, preferably in Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies or a related discipline
-
A strong interest in SEND and inclusive education
-
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-
Empathy, patience and resilience
-
The ability to build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
-
A flexible approach and willingness to adapt
-
A proactive attitude and commitment to student development
The opportunity is particularly relevant to graduates interested in education, educational psychology, counselling, therapy or specialist SEND provision.
Previous experience in a school is not required.
Experience through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, volunteering or other work with young people would be an advantage. We're also keen to hear from graduates who can demonstrate the right personal qualities, enthusiasm and commitment.
What will you take away?
Beyond the day-to-day experience of supporting students, you'll gain a practical understanding of how schools promote inclusion and meet a range of learning needs.
The role offers opportunities to:
-
Learn from experienced SEND professionals
-
Develop practical skills supporting students with additional needs
-
Build experience delivering 1:1 and small-group interventions
-
Strengthen your confidence communicating with young people
-
Develop mentoring and interpersonal skills
-
Gain insight into inclusive education and SEND provision
-
Access training and professional development opportunities
-
Build relevant experience for teacher training and wider education careers
Take your first step into SEND
If you're ready to put your degree to meaningful use, develop your skills and help young people become more confident and independent learners, we'd love to hear from you.
