A group of well-respected secondary schools in Barnet are seeking motivated and academically strong individuals to join their teams this September as Graduate STEM Teaching Assistants. This is an excellent opportunity to support students in Maths, Science, and related subjects while developing your own skills in a dynamic school setting.

About the Role – Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant

As a Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with subject teachers and the wider support team to improve student understanding and engagement in STEM subjects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing targeted academic support in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Engineering-based subjects
  • Delivering small-group and one-to-one intervention sessions to help students close learning gaps or stretch their abilities
  • Assisting in lesson planning and delivery, with the opportunity to lead portions of lessons over time
  • Offering mentoring and study skills support, especially in the run-up to GCSE and A-Level exams
  • Gaining practical classroom experience while exploring different teaching approaches and learning environments

This full-time role is ideal for graduates looking to train as teachers, apply for PGCEs, or explore long-term careers in education, EdTech, or research.

Who Should Apply? – Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant Profile

We’re looking for enthusiastic, committed individuals who can make a real difference in the classroom:

  • A 2:1 or higher in a STEM-related subject (e.g., Maths, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science)
  • Strong subject knowledge and confidence in supporting learners at both KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A proactive and supportive attitude, with the ability to adapt to the needs of different learners
  • Prior experience working with young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, youth programmes) is beneficial but not essential
