This role is ideal for a talented graduate in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or Computer Science who is eager to develop valuable school-based experience.

The Role

As a Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with experienced teachers across the Maths and Science departments, helping pupils build confidence and succeed academically.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting lessons across KS3 and KS4 Maths and Science (with potential KS5 exposure)
  • Delivering focused 1:1 and small group interventions to help raise attainment
  • Assisting pupils preparing for GCSE and A-Level examinations
  • Helping stretch and challenge high-performing students with strong academic ambitions
  • Supporting practical experiments and STEM enrichment activities
  • Developing key classroom management and teaching skills

Working as a Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant will provide excellent preparation for a PGCE or salaried teacher training programme, giving you real insight into teaching, lesson planning and pupil progress.

Candidate Requirements

The school is looking for a confident and academically strong Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant who can become a positive role model for pupils.

You should have:

  • A First-Class or strong 2:1 degree in a STEM subject (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline)
  • Strong GCSE and A-Level results, particularly in Maths or Science
  • A genuine ambition to pursue a career in teaching
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to support pupils academically
  • A proactive, professional and resilient attitude

Previous tutoring, mentoring or school experience can be helpful but is not essential for a motivated Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant.
