KPI Education is working with a high-achieving and inclusive secondary school in Barnet that is seeking an enthusiastic and academically strong Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate looking to gain valuable classroom experience while using their STEM knowledge to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
The Role
As a Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside experienced teachers to support students in STEM subjects and help create an engaging and focused learning environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting teachers during Science, Maths, Computing and STEM-related lessons.
- Providing 1:1 and small-group academic support.
- Helping students understand challenging concepts and develop their subject knowledge.
- Supporting practical activities, experiments and classroom learning.
- Assisting with lesson preparation and STEM resources.
- Supporting students with revision, homework and exam preparation.
- Helping pupils develop confidence, problem-solving skills and independent learning habits.
- Supporting positive behaviour and maintaining high classroom expectations.
- Monitoring student engagement and contributing to progress tracking.
- Providing additional support to students who may have different learning needs.
- Building positive relationships with students and encouraging their interest in STEM.
Candidate Profile
The ideal Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant will have:
- A degree in a STEM-related subject, with a 2:1 or above preferred.
- Strong academic knowledge and genuine enthusiasm for STEM.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence working with secondary-age students.
- The ability to explain complex ideas clearly and simply.
- A patient, proactive and resilient approach.
- A genuine interest in education and supporting young people.
- Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work or classroom support is desirable but not essential.
