Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant

Wolverhampton | Full-Time | £20,000–£25,000

Your degree has given you the knowledge. Now it's time to put it into practice.

Could you help a young person go from struggling with a subject to feeling confident enough to tackle it independently?

If you've graduated in a STEM-related discipline and are interested in sharing your knowledge, this could be an opportunity to start building a career that combines your academic background with supporting others.

KPI Education is working with a supportive secondary school in Wolverhampton seeking a motivated Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant.

You'll gain first-hand experience of secondary education, working alongside experienced teachers and helping students develop their understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Whether you're considering teaching, tutoring or a wider education career, this role offers a valuable insight into life in the classroom.

Bringing STEM to life

You'll provide additional academic support to students, helping them work through difficult concepts, strengthen their understanding and become more confident learners.

Your support may take place on a 1:1 basis, in small groups or within the wider classroom, depending on student and school requirements.

You could be involved in:

  • Helping students understand STEM subjects and challenging academic concepts

  • Delivering individual and small-group learning support

  • Encouraging problem-solving, independent thinking and effective learning habits

  • Assisting teachers with classroom activities and differentiated learning tasks

  • Supporting practical activities and promoting engagement with STEM

  • Developing students' confidence, curiosity and motivation

  • Providing additional explanations and guidance where needed

  • Collaborating with teachers and other support staff

  • Sharing relevant observations and feedback about student progress

What will make you a good fit?

We're looking for graduates who are enthusiastic about their subject and keen to help young people develop their academic skills.

You'll ideally have:

  • A STEM-related degree, such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Computer Science or a similar discipline

  • Ideally, a 2:1 degree or above

  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to explain ideas clearly

  • A genuine interest in working with young people

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A patient, enthusiastic and encouraging approach

  • The ability to establish positive relationships with students

You don't need previous school or classroom experience.

We're interested in graduates who can demonstrate a genuine passion for their subject, a willingness to learn and the motivation to help students achieve their potential.

What could you gain?

This is your chance to move beyond academic study and discover how your knowledge can make a difference in an educational setting.

Alongside practical classroom experience, you'll develop transferable skills in communication, mentoring, behaviour management and learning support, while learning from experienced education professionals.

The experience could be particularly useful if you're considering:

  • Teacher training or a future in teaching

  • Tutoring and academic support

  • STEM education

  • Wider education or youth-focused careers

You'll also gain insight into supporting students with different abilities and learning needs, helping you develop a broader understanding of effective teaching and inclusive classroom practice.

Ready to take your first step?

If you're a STEM graduate looking to build your experience, develop your skills and help young people discover their potential, we'd love to hear from you.
