Birmingham | Full-Time | £20,000–£25,000

Share your passion for STEM and help shape the next generation of learners.

What if your degree could do more than open doors for your own career? What if it could help a young person discover a subject they once thought was beyond them?

If you're a recent graduate with a background in Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths, this could be your opportunity to take your first steps into education.

KPI Education is recruiting a Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in Birmingham.

Working alongside experienced teachers, you'll help students strengthen their subject knowledge, develop effective learning habits and approach challenging topics with greater confidence.

Whether you're considering teacher training, tutoring or a longer-term career in education, this role offers valuable practical experience to help you explore your options.

How you'll contribute

You'll provide academic support across STEM subjects, helping students make sense of difficult concepts and encouraging them to become more independent learners.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting students across Science, Mathematics, Technology, Engineering and related subjects

  • Explaining challenging topics in a clear, accessible way

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group academic support

  • Encouraging logical thinking, problem-solving and independent learning

  • Assisting teachers with classroom activities and differentiated learning tasks

  • Helping facilitate practical activities and maintain student engagement

  • Inspiring curiosity, confidence and enthusiasm for STEM

  • Offering additional guidance to students who need further help

  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff and the wider school team

  • Sharing relevant feedback and observations about student progress

What are we looking for?

We're keen to hear from graduates who have a solid understanding of their subject and the interpersonal skills to help young people learn.

You'll ideally have:

  • A STEM-related degree, such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Computer Science or a similar subject

  • Ideally, a 2:1 degree or above

  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to communicate ideas effectively

  • A genuine interest in supporting young people

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A patient, positive and enthusiastic attitude

  • The ability to encourage students and build positive relationships

Previous teaching or classroom experience is not essential.

You may have gained relevant experience through tutoring, mentoring or other activities, but we're particularly interested in graduates who can demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative and a genuine desire to help students progress.

Why take this opportunity?

Your first role after university can be an important step in deciding where you want your career to go. This position gives you the chance to experience education from the inside while developing skills that can be applied across a range of professions.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Gain practical experience in a Birmingham secondary school

  • Apply your degree knowledge in a real classroom environment

  • Develop your communication, mentoring and classroom management skills

  • Support students with varied abilities and learning requirements

  • Learn from experienced teachers and education professionals

  • Access training and professional development opportunities

  • Build relevant experience for teacher training and wider education careers

It could be a particularly useful starting point for graduates interested in teaching, tutoring, STEM education or other roles involving young people.

Ready to put your degree to work?

If you're looking for an opportunity to develop professionally, share your subject knowledge and help young people build confidence in STEM, we'd love to hear from you.
