Job Description – Train to Teach (Mathematics)
Are you a Maths graduate with a passion for education and aspirations to become a qualified teacher?
This exciting Train to Teach opportunity offers a structured pathway into the teaching profession within supportive secondary school settings across Kent. Designed for ambitious graduates, the programme combines hands-on classroom experience with professional training, allowing you to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to become an outstanding Mathematics teacher.
You will work alongside experienced educators, gain valuable classroom exposure, and receive ongoing mentoring as you prepare for formal teacher training and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Key Responsibilities
- Participate fully in all aspects of the teacher training programme, including professional studies and practical classroom experience.
- Observe and support qualified Mathematics teachers across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Assist with the planning, preparation, and delivery of engaging Maths lessons.
- Deliver small-group interventions and targeted support sessions to improve student progress.
- Develop effective behaviour management and classroom leadership skills.
- Prepare and teach lessons under supervision, adapting learning to meet the needs of all students.
- Monitor, assess, and record student progress in line with school policies.
- Support pupils both academically and pastorally throughout their learning journey.
- Attend departmental meetings, training sessions, and whole-school professional development activities.
- Promote safeguarding, inclusion, and student wellbeing at all times.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school through enrichment activities and school events.
Required Qualifications, Education & Experience
- A minimum 2:2 undergraduate degree in Mathematics or a closely related subject.
- GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
- A genuine passion for Mathematics and a commitment to pursuing a career in teaching.
- Experience working with young people, tutoring, coaching, mentoring, or volunteering is desirable but not essential.

- Strong mathematical knowledge and the ability to communicate concepts clearly.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.

- Commitment to high standards of teaching, learning, and student achievement.
- Understanding of safeguarding and professional conduct within education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting learning in a school, tutoring, mentoring, or coaching environment.
- Additional qualifications related to Mathematics, education, or youth development.
- Awareness of current educational initiatives and curriculum developments.
