A forward-thinking and inclusive secondary school in Brent is seeking a motivated Unqualified English Teacher to join their English department from January 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate who plans to pursue a PGCE or formal teacher training and wants meaningful classroom experience beforehand.
The Role
As an Unqualified English Teacher, you will take on a structured teaching role with extensive support from experienced staff. Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering pre-planned English lessons to KS3 and KS4 classes.
- Supporting pupils with reading, writing, and exam skills development.
- Running intervention sessions for small groups and individual students.
- Developing effective classroom management and behaviour strategies.
- Assisting with marking, feedback, lesson preparation, and progress tracking.
- Working closely with the English department to support curriculum delivery.
This role offers a realistic insight into the day-to-day life of a teacher while providing the guidance and mentoring needed to build confidence in the classroom.
Person Specification
- A degree in English or a closely related subject (2:1 or above preferred).
- A clear intention to train as an English teacher.
- Strong subject knowledge and a passion for literature and language.
- Confident communication skills and a professional approach.
- The ability to build positive relationships with students.
- Previous experience working with young people is beneficial but not essential.
