KPI Education is working in partnership with a high-performing and well-respected specialist SEN school in Woolwich to recruit a High-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA). This is an excellent opportunity for a confident, skilled practitioner who is passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs and who is ready to take on greater responsibility within the classroom.

The school provides a structured, nurturing, and highly supportive environment for pupils with autism, SEMH needs, and complex learning difficulties. Staff work closely as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure every pupil receives personalised support that promotes communication, emotional regulation, independence, and academic progress.

The Role

As an HLTA, you will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the classroom, working alongside teachers, therapists, and senior staff. You will be expected to take initiative, lead targeted interventions, and support the delivery of high-quality, differentiated learning experiences.

This is a highly hands-on role where you will have direct impact on pupil progress, behaviour development, and engagement in learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and support structured learning activities for pupils with SEN across Key Stages.
  • Lead small group interventions to improve engagement, communication, and attainment.
  • Provide targeted 1:1 support for pupils with complex needs, including autism and SEMH.
  • Assist in planning and adapting learning materials to meet individual EHCP targets.
  • Support behaviour regulation strategies and promote a positive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and therapists to implement consistent support strategies.
  • Monitor, record, and feedback on pupil progress and development.
  • Contribute to the wider school ethos of inclusion, consistency, and high expectations.

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for outstanding candidates who:

  • Have substantial experience working in SEN education (essential).
  • Ideally hold HLTA status or equivalent senior TA experience.
  • Have strong knowledge of autism, SEMH, and complex learning needs.
  • Demonstrate excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Are confident leading interventions and supporting whole-class learning.
  • Show resilience, initiative, and a proactive approach to supporting pupils.
  • Are committed to long-term development within SEN education.
