Maintenance Manager - Food Manufacturing

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and hands-on Maintenance Manager to join a well-established food manufacturing business in York.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive engineering leader who enjoys balancing day-to-day maintenance activities with team leadership. Reporting directly to the Site Manager, you will lead a small team of 3-5 engineers, ensuring the factory operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.

The Role

As Maintenance Manager, you will take ownership of the site's maintenance function, remaining actively involved on the factory floor while leading and developing your engineering team.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing and supporting a team of 3-5 maintenance engineers.
• Leading planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
• Providing hands-on engineering support when required.
• Driving improvements in equipment reliability and manufacturing performance.
• Managing maintenance schedules and engineering priorities.
• Ensuring compliance with health & safety, food safety, and engineering standards.
• Working closely with production and the Site Manager to maximise plant availability.
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and identifying opportunities to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
• Managing engineering contractors and maintenance-related projects where required.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong leadership with a practical engineering background.

You'll ideally have:

• Previous experience as a Maintenance Manager, Engineering Manager, Lead Engineer, or Engineering Supervisor within food manufacturing or another fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• A hands-on approach with strong fault-finding and maintenance experience.
• Experience leading, coaching, and developing engineering teams.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• A recognised engineering qualification (electrical, mechanical, or multi-skilled).
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance systems and continuous improvement techniques.
