Burnley, Lancashire, England
£26,000 - 26,761 per year

Job Type: Full Time

Duties:

Maths Graduate Teacher Training | Starting Salary £26,761 | PGCE + QTS in 12 Months

Is your mind turning towards the end of your studies and towards a full-time career?

Are you a recent Mathematics graduate — or someone with strong A-level Maths — who enjoys problem-solving, logical thinking, and inspiring curiosity about numbers? If Maths is your passion, we have the perfect teacher training opportunity for you in Accrington or Burnley.

The opportunity

Do you see teaching as more than just a job? At our East Lancashire secondary schools, we're looking for enthusiastic Maths graduates — or aspiring teachers with strong A-level Mathematics — who want to turn their love of the subject into a meaningful career. We're seeking future teachers who can bring clarity, enthusiasm, and analytical thinking to Maths lessons, from algebra and geometry to statistics, probability, and real-world problem solving.

Why choose us?

We offer a £26,761 starting salary during your training year, so you earn while you learn from day one. In just 12 months you'll gain both a PGCE and QTS — nationally recognised qualifications that open doors across England. Our programme holds an Ofsted 'Outstanding' rating with a 95% trainee success rate, and is built around a practical training model that focuses on real classroom skills rather than academic theory alone. You'll work in modern facilities with specialist Maths resources, supported throughout by structured mentorship from experienced Maths teachers.

The schools

Our Accrington and Burnley secondary schools are well-regarded hubs for Maths education in the heart of East Lancashire, with consistently strong results at GCSE and A-Level. You'll benefit from a collaborative Maths department, access to specialist resources and modern learning technology, and enrichment opportunities including Maths clubs, competitions, and intervention programmes.

Training structure

We use a 4+1 model: four days a week in school, with Wednesdays reserved for online PGCE study and professional development. From September to December you'll observe lessons, team-teach with your mentor, and build your confidence in the classroom. From January to March you'll take the lead on planning and delivering lessons and begin developing your assessment strategies. From April to July you'll teach independently, refine your classroom management, and complete your PGCE and QTS.

What you'll need

You'll need a degree in Mathematics or a closely related numerate discipline (2:1 or higher preferred), or strong A-level Mathematics. Beyond that, we're looking for a genuine passion for Maths and education, excellent communication and organisational skills, and a commitment to growing as a teacher. A driving licence is helpful — Accrington and Burnley are well connected by road and rail, but having your own transport makes moving between sites easier.

Next steps

Interviews are ongoing for a September 2026 start. Take the first step toward a rewarding Maths teaching career in East Lancashire while earning a competitive salary and gaining nationally recognised qualifications.
