The Opportunity
We are working with a leading manufacturing business in Exeter that is looking to appoint an experienced Metrology Engineer to join its technical and inspection function.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of metrology, CAD, inspection technology and manufacturing engineering.
The role will focus heavily on developing and implementing measurement strategies, programming inspection equipment and producing accurate technical reports to support both internal teams and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out dimensional inspection of manufactured components, products and tooling.
- Develop measurement strategies and inspection methods.
- Produce FAI reports and technical documentation.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and GD&T requirements.
- Programme automated inspection equipment, including CMMs.
- Work with non-contact measurement systems and 3D inspection technology.
- Use CAD software to interrogate models and support inspection activities.
- Design part-marking templates and inspection fixturing using CAD.
- Carry out dimensional calibration of measurement equipment.
- Support engineering teams with technical and specification queries.
- Identify and resolve technical problems relating to measurement and inspection.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand and deliver measurement requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing and inspection process.
Technical Skills & Experience
We're particularly interested in candidates with strong software and technical capabilities, alongside practical metrology experience.
Ideally, you will have:
- Strong CAD experience, with Siemens NX highly desirable.
- Experience programming CMM equipment, ideally using Renishaw MODUS.
- Experience with GOM / Zeiss ATOS or similar non-contact inspection systems.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Experience producing FAI and technical inspection reports.
- A background in Mechanical Engineering, Automation, Metrology or a related discipline.
- HNC/HND or Degree-level engineering qualification, or equivalent technical experience.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem solving.
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- Previous experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Metrology or dimensional inspection experience.
- CMM programming experience.
- Knowledge of automation and inspection systems.
- Experience with MSA / R&R analysis.
- Experience using non-contact measurement technology.
- Experience with 3D printing and associated inspection applications.

This role would suit a Metrology Engineer, CMM Programmer, Quality Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer or Inspection Engineer who has strong technical and software capabilities and wants to work within a modern manufacturing environment.
