Duties:
Refractory Operative/Maintenance Labourer
Location: Rochdale
Salary: £26,500 - £32,000 DOE
Shifts: Double Days (6 - 2 & 2 - 10)
The Role
We are looking for a practical, hardworking and hands-on individual to join our refractory and furnace maintenance team. This is a varied role involving labouring, repair work, brickwork, factory duties, FLT driving and general handyman activities within a busy refractory environment. Training & FLT certificates can be provided by the company.
You will be working around industrial furnaces and refractory materials, so this is a hot, physically demanding and dirty working environment. You will need to be comfortable getting stuck in, working with your hands and carrying out a wide variety of practical tasks.
No previous refractory experience is required, as full training and development will be provided but our client is looking for skills or experience that would lend itself well such as construction site labouring, any brick work and or groundworks/maintenance etc. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with the right attitude who wants to learn new skills and develop a career within an industrial environment.
- General labouring/assisting with refractory and furnace maintenance activities
- Carrying out repair and maintenance work around the factory and furnace areas
- Removing, breaking out and clearing refractory bricks and materials
- Preparing, repairing and rebuilding refractory brickwork
- Mixing and applying refractory materials as required
- Assisting with furnace maintenance, repairs and relining activities
- Carrying out general brickwork, pointing, patching and rebuilding
- Breaking down damaged brickwork and rebuilding it to the required standard
- Operating an FLT to move materials, equipment and waste around the site
- Loading, unloading and transporting materials safely
- Assisting with parts from the stores
- Carrying out general factory duties and keeping work areas clean and organised
- Using a variety of hand tools and basic equipment
- Carrying out general handyman and repair tasks as required
- Supporting skilled tradespeople and maintenance personnel with larger repair and maintenance projects
- Moving materials and equipment safely around the working environment
- Following instructions and working as part of a team to complete jobs safely and efficiently
- Maintaining high standards of Health & Safety at all times.
- Reporting any equipment, environmental or safety concerns to management
