About You :

We are looking for a committed and compassionate teacher who understands the challenges - and rewards - of working within an SEMH environment.  You should:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Have experience teaching Science at secondary level.
  • Have experience teaching within an SEMH school.
  • Demonstrate strong behaviour management skills and emotional resilience.
  • Be patient, empathetic, and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.
  • Be adaptable and creative in your teaching approach.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be committed to inclusive education and helping every student succeed.

The Role

As a Science Teacher in an SEMH setting, you will play a vital role in supporting students who may have faced barriers to learning in mainstream education.

You will deliver engaging, accessible Science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, adapting your teaching to meet a wide range of needs and abilities.

You will be instrumental in building strong relationships, creating a safe and structured classroom environment, and helping students develop both academically and personally.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging and differentiated Science lessons tailored to individual needs.
  • Supporting students with SEMH needs to re-engage with learning and build confidence.
  • Creating a calm, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Using a patient, flexible approach to behaviour management and emotional support.
  • Monitoring progress and implementing targeted interventions.
  • Working closely with pastoral teams and external professionals to support student development.
  • Contributing to the development of curriculum and the wider school ethos.
