SEN Teacher - Primary, Secondary & Post-16
Uxbridge, West London | Specialist SEN School | Full-Time | Long-Term
£220 - £290 per day | Immediate / January Start
Are you an experienced Teacher looking for a long-term opportunity within specialist education?
Do you enjoy adapting learning around the individual pupil rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach?
Would you like to join a supportive specialist setting with opportunities across Primary, Secondary and Post-16 provision?
A well-established specialist SEN school in Uxbridge is looking to appoint experienced Teachers to join its team on a long-term basis.
The school supports children and young people with a broad range of additional needs, including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism, communication needs, sensory differences, physical needs and wider SEND.
There are currently opportunities across different areas of the school, including KS2 class teaching and Secondary/Post-16 PPA cover, with final placement dependent on individual experience, strengths and preference.
Pupils have varied learning profiles and may be working significantly below age-related expectations. Teaching therefore needs to be flexible, highly differentiated and focused around each pupil's individual starting point, EHCP outcomes and wider developmental needs.
Depending on the class, learning may range from more traditional English, Maths and subject-based teaching through to functional learning, communication, independence, life skills and preparation for adulthood.
Classes are small and supported by experienced Teaching Assistants, allowing teachers to build strong relationships with pupils and deliver meaningful, individualised learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, highly differentiated lessons for pupils with SEND.
- Teach pupils across Primary, Secondary or Post-16 provision, depending on placement.
- Adapt curriculum content around individual starting points, needs and EHCP outcomes.
- Deliver appropriate English and Maths alongside wider curriculum learning.
- Support pupils with MLD, Autism, communication difficulties and additional learning needs.
- Use practical, creative and functional approaches to make learning accessible and meaningful.
- Support pupils who may be working significantly below age-related expectations.
- Create calm, structured and predictable classroom environments.
- Promote communication, confidence, engagement and independence.
- Use visual supports and alternative communication approaches where appropriate.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and sensory needs.
- Develop functional literacy and numeracy where appropriate.
- Support older pupils with life skills, independence and preparation for adulthood.
- Use assessment and observation to identify meaningful next steps.
- Monitor academic, social and personal progress.
- Contribute to EHCP outcomes, Annual Reviews and individual target setting.
- Lead and effectively deploy Teaching Assistants within the classroom.
- Maintain consistency with established pupil routines and individual support strategies.
- Work closely with therapists and wider specialist professionals.
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers.
- Support transitions between classes, phases and stages of education.
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, pupil welfare and professional practice.
We Are Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching children or young people with SEND.
- Previous Primary, Secondary or Post-16 teaching experience.
- Experience supporting pupils with MLD, Autism or additional learning needswould be particularly beneficial.
- Strong knowledge of adaptive teaching and differentiation.
- Confidence teaching pupils working across a broad range of developmental levels.
- The ability to adapt curriculum content significantly where required.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
- A calm, patient and consistent approach.
- The ability to establish positive relationships quickly.
- Confidence leading and directing Teaching Assistants.
- Strong assessment, organisation and communication skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively with therapists, families and wider professionals.
- A genuine commitment to helping pupils with SEND make meaningful academic, social and personal progress.
Previous specialist-school experience is highly desirable, although applications are also welcomed from strong mainstream teachers with substantial SEND experience who are looking to move into specialist education.
The Opportunity
This is a particularly good opportunity for teachers who enjoy working in a highly personalised environment and want the chance to work across different areas of specialist education.
For Primary-focused teachers, opportunities may involve leading a small KS2 class, delivering English, Maths and wider curriculum learning while adapting teaching around pupils with MLD and additional needs.
For teachers with Secondary or Post-16 experience, opportunities may include PPA teaching across a range of classes, delivering both academic and functional learning while supporting young people to develop greater independence and prepare for adulthood.
The school offers small classes, experienced classroom support and access to wider specialist professionals, allowing teachers to focus on the individual pupil and recognise progress that may not always fit traditional age-related measures.
This would suit an experienced Primary, Secondary or SEN Teacher looking for a stable long-term role within a supportive specialist setting.
