A specialist all-age SEN school in North London is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teacher to join its growing team. The school supports pupils across both primary and secondary phases with a range of needs including Autism, SEMH, Speech, Language and Communication Needs, Moderate Learning Difficulties and complex additional needs.
The successful candidate will teach either a primary or secondary class, depending on experience and preference, working closely with experienced support staff, therapists and senior leaders to deliver highly personalised learning programmes that enable pupils to achieve meaningful academic, social and emotional outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, creative and differentiated lessons tailored to individual pupil needs
- Develop personalised learning programmes linked to EHCP outcomes and individual targets
- Create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment where pupils can thrive
- Support pupils with Autism, SEMH, communication needs and learning difficulties
- Promote communication, emotional regulation, independence and social development throughout the curriculum
- Work collaboratively with Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists and wider professionals
- Lead and support Teaching Assistants to ensure high-quality classroom provision
- Monitor progress, assess learning and contribute to annual reviews and EHCP processes
- Build positive relationships with families and contribute to the wider school community
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Has experience teaching within Primary, Secondary, SEND or specialist educational settings
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of inclusive and personalised teaching approaches
- Is confident adapting learning for pupils with a range of cognitive, communication and sensory needs
- Has excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills
- Can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Is committed to helping every pupil achieve their potential
Desirable Experience
- Teaching pupils with Autism, SEMH, Speech and Language Needs or Moderate Learning Difficulties
- Experience using communication approaches such as PECS, Makaton, AAC, Visual Supports or Total Communication
- Knowledge of sensory regulation strategies, trauma-informed practice and autism-friendly approaches
- Experience contributing to EHCP reviews and person-centred planning
