About the Role
A specialist all-age SEN school based in Harlesden is seeking an enthusiastic and committed SEN Teacher to join its dedicated team. The school supports children and young people across both primary and secondary phases with a wide range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), SEMH, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and complex learning needs.
The successful candidate will teach either a primary or secondary class, depending on experience and preference, delivering highly personalised learning programmes that support pupils academically, socially and emotionally. Working alongside experienced Teaching Assistants, therapists and senior leaders, you will play a key role in helping every learner reach their full potential within a nurturing, therapeutic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and evaluate engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual pupil needs.
- Develop personalised learning programmes linked to EHCP outcomes and individual learning targets.
- Create a structured, safe and inclusive classroom environment that promotes engagement, confidence and independence.
- Support pupils with Autism, SEMH, communication needs and a range of learning difficulties.
- Promote communication, emotional regulation, social development and life skills across the curriculum.
- Work collaboratively with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists and other external professionals.
- Lead, mentor and direct Teaching Assistants to ensure consistently high-quality classroom support.
- Assess pupil progress using a range of appropriate assessment methods and contribute to annual reviews and EHCP documentation.
- Build positive relationships with parents, carers and external agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for pupils.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school, including enrichment activities, training and school development initiatives.
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, behaviour management and pupil wellbeing at all times.
Person Specification
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experience teaching within Primary, Secondary, SEND or specialist educational settings.
- Strong understanding of inclusive teaching and differentiated learning.
- Ability to adapt teaching to meet a range of cognitive, communication and sensory needs.
- Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organisational, communication and teamwork abilities.
- Commitment to promoting inclusion and achieving positive outcomes for every pupil.
Desirable
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH, Speech and Language Needs, MLD or complex additional needs.
- Knowledge of communication approaches including PECS, Makaton, AAC, Visual Supports or Total Communication.
- Understanding of sensory integration, emotional regulation strategies, trauma-informed practice and autism-friendly teaching approaches.
- Experience contributing to EHCP reviews, person-centred planning and multidisciplinary working.
