We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teacher to join a well-established specialist school supporting pupils aged 3-19 with a wide range of complex needs, including Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), sensory needs, physical disabilities and communication difficulties.

Opportunities are available within both the Primary and Secondary phases, allowing successful candidates to work within the age range and pathway that best suits their experience and interests.

The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment, working closely with therapists, support staff and families to deliver engaging, personalised learning experiences that support every pupil to achieve meaningful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, highly differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs and EHCP outcomes.
  • Create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment where pupils can develop confidence, communication and independence.
  • Support pupils with a wide range of complex SEND including Autism, SLD, PMLD and communication needs.
  • Develop personalised learning programmes that promote academic, social, emotional and life-skills development.
  • Work collaboratively with Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and other professionals.
  • Lead and direct classroom support staff to ensure consistently high-quality provision.
  • Monitor pupil progress and contribute to EHCP reviews, Annual Reviews and person-centred planning processes.
  • Promote communication, emotional wellbeing, self-advocacy and independence throughout the curriculum.
  • Build positive and productive relationships with families and external professionals.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Has experience teaching within Primary, Secondary, SEND or specialist educational settings.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of inclusive education and personalised learning.
  • Has experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs and barriers to learning.
  • Can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Has excellent communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
  • Is committed to helping every pupil achieve meaningful and individualised outcomes.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, SLD, PMLD or complex communication needs.
  • Knowledge of communication approaches such as Makaton, PECS, PODD, AAC or Total Communication.
  • Experience using sensory-based learning, Intensive Interaction or Autism-specific approaches.
  • Understanding of EHCP processes, Annual Reviews and person-centred planning.
  • Experience working alongside therapy teams and wider professionals.
