In this role, you'll work closely with children who have a range of special educational needs, helping them access the curriculum and develop their academic, social, and life skills while gaining valuable experience working alongside SENCOs, teachers, and other SEN professionals.

SEN Teaching Assistant – Candidate Specification:

  • A 2:1 degree or higher in Education, Psychology, Special Educational Needs, Sociology, or a related field
  • A strong understanding of SEN principles, inclusive education practices, and differentiated learning approaches
  • Passionate about working with children with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient, empathetic, and encouraging approach
  • Previous experience working with young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, voluntary work, or care settings) is desirable, but not essential
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and commitment to child protection

SEN Teaching Assistant – Job Role:

  • Full-time, long-term role, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM, term-time only
  • Support SEN pupils with a range of needs including autism, learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and behavioral challenges
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to help children access the curriculum and develop independence
  • Assist with personalized learning plans and help implement strategies outlined in EHCPs (Education, Health & Care Plans)
  • Support pupils with social skills development, emotional regulation, and building confidence
  • Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to create inclusive learning environments
  • Help with practical care needs where appropriate, promoting dignity and independence
  • Assist with transition activities and prepare resources to support individual learning needs
